Quennect 4 gallery...quennecting 4 culture...quennecting 4 solidarity...your quennect to the underground...we are your q 4 change...

welcome...

We are Quennect 4 Gallery; an independent art space in the heart of Humboldt Park that is home to a wide community of Chicago artists, activists, musicians, and performers who work with us to maintain the vitality of underground culture here in Chicago. Our work at the gallery conists first and foremost of providing a venue for community events geared toward raising awareness of local and international issues that range from human rights and youth advocacy, to neighborhood gentrification and the environment.

However, the vitality that our organization brings to Chicago underground is based on the realization of our goal to support grassroots causes by bringing them onto peoples radar through art and music. In 3 years time we've been fortunate enough to build a network of artists and musicians that work with us to support local organizations by donating their time and talents to socially conscious events. Our profit policy with these events is typically that there is none; we provide artists and musicians with exposure, while they/you provide us with culture. As a result, our footprint on the underground art scene has been made by our ability to raise consciousness through education, with art and freedom of expression as our tools.

Current Projects...

Our claims to fame in the past and to date have been our live music series. The first one was a bi-weekly open mic, "20hz/20klhz All Frequencies Audible to the Human Ear," that began in January 2007, and is still going strong. It now takes place the last Thursday of every month and is open to any and all live performers. For 2 songs or 10 minutes our stage belongs to you, and the only rule is that all persons present must "RESPECT THE MIC." Any Q4 regular knows and accepts that this rule is our mantra and a blessing in disguise; it provides our performers with a positive space and forum for expression which is part of the basis for which we all gather. In turn, for the past 2 years our rugged basement stage has hosted most of Chicago's local performance artists and we look forward to all the newcomers that intend to grace our stage with their presence.

Our second live music series "Cafe Vida" @ Wicker Well is a free world music night that hit the ground running in January of this year. The success of this night can be owed exclusively to the artists, musicians, and supporters of world music who work for little to nothing so that our guests can enjoy a piece of world culture completley free of charge. To date we've brought in reggae, plena, ska, jarocho, gypsy, flamenco, salsa, cumbia, blues, afrofunk, roots and more; if you can name it we've probably brought it and as a result we are currently looking for a new venue to accomodate the growing audience that supports World Music Wednesdays. If you have any suggestion we are open to ideas; essentially we just need space to accomodate bands, art, and a crowd of happy people. :)

To completely flip the script another project that we're trying to get off the ground is a rennovation project for the downstairs floor of our gallery. We're in need of building materials, supplies, and manpower or womanpower to get the job done. so far we need a whole lot of wood, paint, nails etc., and for the artsy but not so crafty, we're also looking for painters to work on murals...we have a shit ton of wall space.

Quennect 4 Services...

Sound Gear Rental
We are fortunate to be equipped with enough sound gear to run an event here at the gallery and at an outside venue both at the same time. We can provide speakers, a sound board, a sound guy and a whole stage setup assuming you can provide the transportation. we have enough equipment to accomodate large venues and audiences indoor and outdoor. Our contact info is listed on the back of the brochure for more information.

Gallery Booking
Additionally, our space is available for art shows, live music, fundraisers, benefits, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Quennect 4 is a roughly 3700 sq ft space with 2 floors, 2 stages, a smoking lounge, a bar area, a single ladies restroom, and a 3 stall mens room. The space can be used very creatively and can accomodate just about any and all venue ideas. To book an event contact John Ibarra or Cristina Gutierrez at the sites listed on back.

Consultation
Lastly, if you are booking an event with us or anywhere else and would like some professional advice, we can run an event for you from top to bottom providing everything from sound gear, to art, music, and security staff. Again, just holler at one of us with the info listed on back. We are more than happy to help.

Get Involved...

If you like what we're about so far and you would like to work with us on some of our projects or one of your own, all you have to do is contact us via email or through our website each of which is listed on the back of this brochure. We are always looking for new artists and musicians and people with ideas, and as was previously mentioned we dont take any percentage of profits made for your work. If youre interested please send a message to the attention of John Ibarra or Cristina Gutierrez and we will look forward to puttin something together with you.
